Which junior tennis lesson format fits your player?

Choose private coaching for maximum individual attention, semi-private coaching for two compatible players, or a small group for structured social energy and game-based learning.

The short answer

The best format depends on the player—not just the number of people on court

Consider the player's current skill, confidence, personality, goals, and ability to learn alongside others. A good fit creates both meaningful repetition and a reason to stay engaged.

Private coaching

Best fit: A player who needs an individual starting point, specific correction, confidence support, or a personalized development plan.

On-court experience: The coach can adjust the pace, repetition, challenge, and feedback around one player throughout the session.

Semi-private coaching

Best fit: Siblings, friends, or compatible players who can benefit from sharing a focus while practicing with a consistent partner.

On-court experience: Each player receives personal feedback, with more opportunities for rally patterns, cooperative challenges, and point play.

Small-group coaching

Best fit: Players who enjoy social learning, team energy, varied partners, and game-based practice in a well-organized setting.

On-court experience: Stations, short lines, clear rotations, and simple challenges keep the group active while the coach addresses one focus at a time.

A practical decision

Five questions that make the choice easier

  1. 1

Does the player need focused help with one skill or confidence barrier?

  2. 2

Would a familiar partner help the player rally, compete, and stay motivated?

  3. 3

Does the player gain energy from learning with a small group?

  4. 4

Are the potential partners reasonably compatible in level, goals, and maturity?

  5. 5

Would a short individual foundation make later group learning more productive?

Quality matters in every format

Players should stay active and know what they are working toward

A group is not successful simply because it is fun, and a private lesson is not successful simply because it is individual. Every format should include purposeful movement, a clear focus, live-ball learning, and a useful takeaway.

What about pricing?

Current lesson pricing is shared on request through Ask Slic'd or a direct availability inquiry. That lets your family see the available choices while keeping the first decision centered on player fit.
